Dr. Dennis Fowler is Director of the Minimal Access Surgery Center of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and is U.S. Surgical Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He earned his MD from University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Dr. Fowler completed fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Fowler is on the Board of Governors of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons and is currently serving as Governor-at-Large for the State of New York to the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Fowler has pursued the treatment of gastrointestinal and other general surgical problems with a minimal-access approach for nearly 20 years. When therapeutic laparoscopy became available, he embraced it and assisted with the development of techniques and instruments for laparoscopic colectomy, gastrectomy, and some pancreatic procedures. His practice is almost exclusively laparoscopic surgery, including all types of GI tract surgery, hernia repair, and solid organ surgery.
